INFO FOR CANDIDATES

PASOQ TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE (3 DAY COURSE)

The PASOQ Technician Certificate indicates that staff who are – or intend to – operate in a pool and perform tasks with significant operational or safety impacts, have the competencies to do so.

It ensures that the theoretical knowledge gained on the course is then firmly underpinned by technical skills and expertise gained in a plant room environment.

This is achieved by ensuring that the learning outcomes required in order to gain the certificate satisfy the relevant Health and Safety recommendations. It is awarded following attendance on a course, the successful completion of an end-of-course test (multi-choice) and the submission to an independent assessor of a work-based assignment within four weeks of the course end.

Once enrolled on the course and prior to attending, candidates are sent a Pre-Course Assignment.  This simple assignment is completed by the candidate and then submitted before the first day of the course.  Candidates are required to find out certain bits of information about their own – or chosen – facility.  Candidates are also provided with information on how to engage with the training, which is delivered using the Zoom platform.  This method of delivery has been adopted during the Covid situation and will continue until that situation has passed.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the course successful candidates will be able to demonstrate an understanding of both generic pools and their own pool plant.  This will include the circulation, filtration, disinfection, pH correction, safe use of chemicals and heating of pool water.  This will enable them to be competent in the safe and efficient operation of pool plant to HSE requirements as described in ‘Managing health and safety in swimming pools’ (HSG179) and the Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group (PWTAG) Code of Practice for Swimming Pool Water – July 2021 (updated to reflect the requirements of Managing Health and Safety in Swimming Pools (HSG179) November 3, 2017).

In line with industry recommendations the course provides candidates with 3 days formal pool training and a work related exercise demonstrating site specific knowledge of their own workplace.
